An important figure who is also considered as one of the greatest stars in the French cinema is known other than Jean Gabin.  He was a key figure in the industry and starred in many classical movies La Grande illusion, Le Jour de leve, Pepe le Moko, Le plaisir, Le Quai des brumes. He was also the member of the Légion d'honneur because he played important role in the French cinema. Gabin was born as Jean-Alexis Moncorge on 17 May 1904 in Paris, France. He was born to parents Madeleine Petit and Ferdinand Moncorge. He grew up in Meriel with his family and completed his schooling from Lycee Janson de Sailly. He performed few minor roles before joining the military. After completing his military service, he returned to the entertainment industry and performed in many minor stage roles. His debut on stage was a variety singer. He completed more than a dozen of movies over the four years in many secondary roles. He gained recognition for Maria Chapdelaine. Some of his major movies are, La Bandera, Pépé le Moko,  La Grande Illusion,  La Grande Illusion, Le Quai Des Brumes. His popularity in France industry increased his reputation in the Hollywood as well. He acted in Moontide,  The Impostor. Gabin was also the part of the military contingent which entered liberated Paris. In The Night affair he portrayed the role of Valois, he was a vice inspector in the Paris police.


In 1954, Gabin acted in Touchez pas a grisbi, his performance in the movie earned him critical acclaim. Well, the movie was very profitable at the international level. Furthermore, he worked in French Cancan, Georges Simenon. Over twenty years he acted in almost more than 50 films, most of them were very successful both commercially and critically. His last movie was L'Année sainte (Holy Year) co-starred with Jean-Claude Brialy, Henri Virlojeux, and Danielle Darrieux. He was also honored with several accolades, Honorary César, Volpi Award, Silver Berlin Bear (twice).

Gabin had a very different personality; he couldn't cope up with everyone. Due to his difficult personality, he never had any girlfriend nor made affairs with anyone. Gabin married thrice, his first wife was Gaby Basset, Suzanne Marguerite Jeanne Mauchain and Dominique Fournie.  His children were, Florence Moncorgé-Gabin (1950), Valérie Moncorgé (1952) and Mathias Moncorgé. When he was age 72 years, he died on 15 November 1976. He was infected by disease leukemia.
